About
NYC Teachers Who Tutor is an organization that Grace Church School colleagues Abby Freireich and Brian Platzer founded in order to match a small group of talented teachers from schools in the city with students who need support. It is the only tutoring company in New York City that works exclusively with classroom teachers with masters degrees in order to ensure that students are supported by the very best educators in the world. Teachers Who Tutor | NYC matches teachers with students in Brooklyn, Manhattan, Long Island and across the country who need support in the subjects that the teacher has been dedicated to for years, whether it is French, Algebra, SAT prep, or the history of Ancient Rome. In addition to founding Teachers Who Tutor, Abby Freireich and Brian Platzer are weekly education columnists for The Atlantic, and have appeared as experts in The New York Times, on Good Morning America, CBS, CNN, NPR, the CBC, and elsewhere. They both are classroom teachers, tutors, parents, recipients of master's degrees and the co-authors of Taking the Stress out of Homework. Together with Victoria Tom, Teacher Who Tutor’s Director of Client Development, Abby and Brian work closely with all Teachers Who Tutor families in order to ensure that they are benefiting from the very best individualized instruction possible. Abby or Brian personally interviews all potential tutoring candidates from Kindergarten reading specialists to calculus and geometry educators, in addition to checking references, going through a sample lesson, checking references, and discussing classroom and tutoring pedagogy.
